It was such a pleasure seeing the Northern Lights for the very first time last year. The smile on my face that night while driving around taking photos was priceless. I was absolutely over the moon because it was something that’s been on my bucket list for quite some time. I couldn’t wait to be able to enjoy it again, especially right here in Newfoundland.
Well, on October 10th 2024, we were lucky enough to get another aurora light up the skies. Special thanks to the sun for blasting us with CMEs strong enough to reach the island. It was quite magical watching the colours dance around above me.
The night setting on my phone worked best for capturing photos of the aurora. Please enjoy:
I started taking photos shortly after sundown when the northern lights had a mild glow and the sky was entirely green. As time passed I saw aurora rays of yellow and orange come to dance, then red, pink and purple, and then slowly back to blue and green.
I decided to take a moment and lay on the grass after taking some photos. The quiet of the night, the calm winds, and the brilliant show going on above me seemed the perfect time to relax and enjoy.
I encourage everyone to do what brings you inner peace and joy. Take time to wind down, to celebrate, to work, to rest, to connect, or whatever it is you know will fill your spirit.
