Topsail Beach Cave

I’ve been to Topsail Bluff before, but I had no idea that down below, along the beach, was this quaint little cave.

The cave is located midway up a wall of limestone/stone, along Topsail Beach. It’s roughly 6 feet wide, 6 feet high, and deep enough to fit 4 or 5 people. Even though the cave is a bit high, it is still accessible from the beach.

If you start from the parking lot and head down the right side of the beach, you should see the limestone wall and cave after about 20-30 minutes of walking. The walk was really fun, especially if you enjoy jumping across boulders or looking for interesting stones.

I don’t know the history of this cave, and I struggled to find any information online. However, from what I’ve been told, this was a mining operation to test the area for gold, and since the sample taken didn’t have great results, the mining stopped. I have no idea if that’s true, but if anyone knows anything about this cave, feel free to let me know in the comments!

It was a chilly morning, with overcast skies, which presented the perfect opportunity to test out the new hats I’ve been knitting. They kept me warm and cosy during the walk to the cave. Despite it being a gloomy day, I was full of joy exploring this new place.

The inside of the cave is covered in what appears to be limestone, quartz, and general rocky bits. There’s graffiti on the walls and some old boards that may have been used as a bench of some sort. It’s not an extravagant cave, but it sure is perfect for taking silhouette photos!

If you plan on visiting Topsail Beach or Topsail Bluff, why not extend your adventure a little further and check out this cave? Walking along the beach is great exercise and the view is totally worth it!
