Franklin Park Zoo, Boston

02

To say I was excited to visit the Franklin Park Zoo would be an understatement. I’ve been wanting to visit a zoo for such a long time and it’s been on my bucket list just waiting to be checked off as done.

When I was planning this trip to Massachusetts and Rhode Island, I knew I had to make time to visit a zoo. It was imperative! I knew I would be spending the most time in Boston which meant the Franklin Park Zoo would be perfect.

Lions and tigers and bears, oh my!

It feels insane to see animals on television and in photos and then be standing right next to them in-person. It was absolutely surreal. Watching them interact with each other and listening to the various sounds was so immersive. I could have stayed there for days just sitting and seeing the different personalities in all of the animals.

I think watching the peacock show-off it’s beautiful feathers was one of my favourite moments. Up-close you can really see all of the detail and colours. It honestly blows my mind when I think about all of the different animals in the world. Like, what’s the deal with flamingos and having stilts for legs? It looks so strange! Why must they rub their balancing skills in my clumsy face!

The Franklin Park Zoo is divided up into different sections. There’s the Serengeti Crossing where you can find animals like zebras. The Kalahari Kingdom where the lions and tigers reside. The Giraffe Savannah where… well… there actually weren’t any giraffes there when I visited in February, due to the cold. Then there’s the Tropical Forest where you’ll find sloths, gorillas, and so much more. The Outback Trail has animals like the kiwi, emu, and red kangaroo. The last area I can recall is the Bird’s World where those pesky flamingos and other birds reside.

I feel so blessed to have been able to check this off of my bucket list. However, I was a little disappointed that I didn’t get to see the giraffes and there weren’t any elephants at the Franklin Park Zoo. BUT, that just means I’ll have to visit another zoo someday to see those animals! The elephant is one of my favourites so I’ll definitely be planning a trip somewhere so I can see one.

If you’re wishing you could visit this zoo or have already been there and would like a little recap, then check out the little video I filmed during my time there.
