Salem Adventure! ☆~

What happens when you kiss a witch on the streets of Salem?

Salem1

Salem is a little town in Massachusetts not far from Boston. In fact, I think the train ride from Boston was only like 30 minutes or so. Long enough to enjoy a cuppa and some pages from a good book!

Most tourists seem to visit Salem during Halloween, which makes sense. The town is famously known for the 1692 witch trials and other spooky things. However, I decided to visit during the off-season, in February. Sure, some of the shops and events are closed during the off-season, BUT you pretty much get the town to yourself. There are very few tourists, people seem more relaxed, and taking photos without people in the background is super easy.

I’ve always preferred walking around new destinations so that I could immerse myself into the place. Driving in a car or riding a bus just doesn’t satisfy me as much as walking. Thankfully, Salem is a fantastic town for walking. Shops are close-by to each other, the streets are quiet, and there are even guidelines along the sidewalk that lead to all of the major tourist spots.

The houses in Salem are so freakin’ cool and eerie. I absolutely love it. I was able to visit The Witch House and The House of the Seven Gables. I saw The Witch Dungeon, but it was closed so I couldn’t go inside, sooooo I admired the little glass display showcased on the outside of the building instead. Even the designs of the various shops were cool and creepy.

Since I live a pretty cheap lifestyle, and I’m an even cheaper tourist, I didn’t bother paying to look around The Witch Museum or other little tours. Those things are interesting and fantastic, but I wasn’t in the mood for tours during this trip. Simply admiring the architecture and “mood” of Salem was enough for me.

However, I do love food, especially pizza. So, when I saw the Flying Saucer Pizza Company across the road, I knew my heart was going to be stolen. I seriously love the design inside the pizza shop too. It feels very… hip! Haha. After a brief look at the menu I decided to stick with the spooky theme and ordered the “Cthulhu” for my half of the pizza and my friend ordered “The Vision” for their half. It… was… delicious!

It would have been wild to visit Salem during the Halloween season. I can only imagine how lively the town must be on Halloween night. Madness! I feel very blessed to have spent a day roaming around this old and spooky town and I think someday I’d like to go back. One more trip checked off of my bucket list!
