East to West

I’m spending my last couple of weeks living here in Newfoundland enjoying my favourite things about this island – the wind, the open sea, and the people that mean the most to me.

What better place to enjoy the wind and sea than good ol’ Cape Spear. Known as the easternmost point in Canada and I believe North America as well. Looking out onto the Atlantic from here feels like the end of the world, but it also invites a feeling of comfort and excitement. It’s said that Cape Spear used to be known as the “cape of hope” and I really like that. Standing out here with the wind tugging at my dress and the sea invigorating my mind is a wonderful feeling. I am so full of hope.

I absolutely love and truly enjoy living in the moment, exploring new places, and learning new things. It’s when I feel the most alive and free. Recently, I have decided to leave Newfoundland and backpack West across Canada. I plan to leave the island in early August and I’m so excited. This will be my first time going on a backpacking adventure off the island.

Am I nervous about it? Nah. Worried? Not at all. I know myself well enough to handle things as they arise. I’m aware that bad things can happen, though, and of course frustration and fear can impact the journey. But honestly, that’s half of the adventure! I love it when things stray from the ideal and changes occur. Although it may be bothersome in the moment, those changes allow us to learn and grow and that’s what life is all about.

The next stop before leaving Newfoundland will be to my hometown so I can spend some time with my family. It also gives me the opportunity to explore where I was born and bred and enjoy the childhood memories. I’m going to stay there for a few days before heading to Argentia and boarding the ferry to North Sydney.

Until then…
